The Sirens Of Titan

I wonder how I failed to read The Sirens Of Titan when I was young. In my youth, I was on quite a Vonnegut tear, reading everything from Player Piano to Galapagos, and beyond that to Slapstick, which I didn't like. So I went years without reading any Vonnegut. Then I saw The Sirens Of Titan on the shelf, and with my usual impulsiveness I decided it would be nice to read after Crime & Punishment by Dostoevsky. I luckily had never read it before. Many concepts he dealt with are present here, and he was honing his style, but still managed to tell a good story. In many ways, it might be his best book, although I still think Slaughterhouse 5 was his masterpiece. The two books share a connection in the planet Tramaldafore and the concept of time and how it passes yet still remains.

Democrats Want Trump Back

It's obvious. By their pseudo-intellectual sanctimony, the Democrats are busily paving the way for Donald Trump's triumphant return to power. That's the only logical conclusion I can reach. When mothers are called birthing persons, it is obvious that they want someone to skewer their sacred cows, and that's a job for Mister Trump. Why such nonsense is tolerated, nay, encouraged, it is plain that they want to turn off two thirds of the electorate, which leaves plain speaking iconclasts in a great position to achieve popularity. Why? I don't know. If you want social justice, I would think it could be done without engaging in such wordgames; one would be better off speaking plain English in order to galvanize the traditional American impulse towards justice. Instead, the American left wants to reinvent the language, like Big Brother in Orwell's 1984, and insult the intelligence of anyone who refuses to accept such a ridiculous project. Sick of Yelling

So many people can't settle their differences in a civilized manner. In Japan when people have a difference of opinion, whomever raises their voice loses the argument. No wonder they are so tranquil over there. Here in the U.S.A. though, it seems as if loud, obnoxious behavior is rewarded. I think that's because in Japan, arguments are seen as part of the ebb and flow of life, whereas in America an argument is treated as a competitive event. It all boils down to the fact that Americans, despite their ingenuity, are barbarians beneath a thin veneer of civilization. The culture wars are steadily stripping that veneer away. Each year the rhetoric gets more strident, and the volume increases as the logic is diminished. It's not a healthy situation: in fact, for the good of our nation, I think we should become Shaolin priests. They hardly ever yell, and would only do so in an extreme emergency.
