Saving the World

Government has always existed, in one form or another, since the first monkeys got together in their bands so many millions of years ago. It was the beginning of agriculture that began the troubles that beset us today. Once agriculture began, people no longer roamed the world, but stayed put in the most fertile areas, which other groups would also want, as well as attracting marauders who wanted to take advantage of the work of others. This invariably demanded a more complex social structure. Soon population exploded, since the people began a more sedentary lifestyle, and were able to eat more. In nomadic groups, women were not able to have as many children as civilized women, due to fat levels, which were higher and replenished quicker in a city. Even though large armies could be raised and great battles fought, the fallen soldiers were soon replaced.
